The Kingpins are Aucklands’ hottest new entertainment force

The Kingpins are Aucklands’ hottest new entertainment force, providing a huge range of covers music that would keep any audience dancing and entertained. From contemporary pop, rock, disco, dance and funk for a party night through to soft jazz for dinner music, the repertoire is broad and versatile. With one female and four male vocalists The Kingpins can play music to suit any event, formal or casual, corporate, wedding, birthday or pub. Built on a basis of good musicianship, quality gear and a sound that is top notch, The Kingpins also have a focus on entertaining people and a stage presence that would engage any crowd.


Antony Pickard: Main male vocals / Guitars

Antony studied music from the age of five on piano, then moved onto guitar and bass and took up singing with his first rock band at fifteen. 1988 saw him win both the Wellington Choral Festival Award and the first ever ‘N.Z. Rock Quest’. He then began stints with his own Christchurch / Wellington based covers groups and the stellar band ‘Slam’. In 2000 he began touring rigorously through the South East Asian ‘Grand Hyatt’ hotel chain with ‘Ultra’ until in 2005 he moved to Auckland to join ‘Kick’ and began a hectic schedule of studio and gig sessions with the likes of; MacDonald’s, All-blacks, Steinlager, Dominion Breweries, the Hurricanes, Les Mills and Mitsubishi.


Gerry Rooderkerk: Main female vocals

Gerry Rooderkerk's versatility has seen her perform in many different line-ups & situations in her 15 years in Auckland; from covers stalwarts ‘The Scanners’, ‘Early Warning’ and ‘Kick’, she also formed 'Star Cross'd', an acoustic duo that still gigs regularly 10 years on, her own reggae outfit 'The Copicats' and her own originals project, ‘Peepshow’.
Hayden Wharewaka: Drums

At just ten years of age, Hayden started playing gigs with his grandparents the N.Z. jazz Icons Millie and Johnny Bradfield. The past ten years has seen him drumming for ‘Union’, the ‘Yellow Ribbon Fight for Life’, ‘When the Cats Away’, T.V.3s ‘Stage of Origin’, ‘Debbie Harwood’, ‘Tina Cross’, ‘Larry Morris’, ‘Suzanne Lynch’, ‘John Rowles’, ‘Anna Wilson’, ‘Adeaze’, ‘Aradhna’ and cover bands’ ‘Karamol’, ‘The Band of Gold’, and ‘What’s going on’.


Butch Villagracia: Bass / Vocals

Butch’s long spanning music career began in his home land the Philippines with his band ‘Hocus Pocus’ and the international folk/rock star 'Freddy Aguilar Anak'. After relocating to Singapore he joined the ‘Exide Band’ playing the Asian Hard Rock Cafe & hotel circuits for many years. In 1990 the ‘Exide Band’ moved to N.Z. where Butch has spent the last 10 years working with Auckland based bands ‘Constellation’, ‘Planet’ and 'Kick'.


Dixon Nacey: Guitar

Having played hundreds of gigs, sessions, workshops and festivals throughout the country and overseas in his 15 year music career, Dixon has made a definitive mark on the New Zealand jazz and covers scene. Albums include: The Alan Brown Trio, Grand Central Band, Tim Hopkins, Nathan Haines, Max Stowers, King Kapisi, Blue Train, Anonymouz, Russell Harrison. Artists backed / bands include; Kick, Annie Crummer, Tama Waipara, Jordan Luck, Graham Brazier, the Joel Haines Quartet, the Nathan Haines All Star Band. Dixon is also doing duo work with the infamous Kevin Haines, his own jazz combos and original funk project as well as teaching jazz music at both Massey and Auckland Universities.
